OUR PRACTICES

WORSHIP

Our worship is about praising God and encouraging one another in the faith. We wholeheartedly sing a combination of historical and contemporary psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Our liturgy, the order of our worship services, follows a communication between God and his people. It is focused on exalting God, seeking His Glory. To that end, we maintain a joyful but respectful attitude in worship.

Young children are very welcome in the service but a creche service is also available for kids up to 4 years old.

Our worship services are conducted in the English language. Recognising that many of our congregants understand English as a second language, we have a real-time translation system in place to accommodate. We have English-to-Mandarin translation for now, but translation to other languages could be considered if the need arises.

‘We believe that Christ has a spiritual presence with his people in the Lord's Supper. It is a special 'means of grace' in which the bread and fruit of the vine serve as a sign of Jesus' body and blood and is a seal (or assurance) of God's love to all.

That understanding, along with the warning in 1 Corinthians 11:27-29, leads us to require that all who participate in the Lord's Supper be professing members of Christ's Church. This means that if you are a Christian and a member in good standing of a sister church or another protestant denomination, then we welcome you to participate in the Lord's Supper with us.

We practice the Lord's Supper in both our morning and evening services once every two months.

BAPTISM

Our congregation practices infant baptism of covenant children - that is, the children of one or more believing parents. We believe that this is the correct biblical practice as outlined in the creeds and confessions we uphold. Our prayer is that these children come to a living faith and, at an older age, make a public profession of their faith.

Adults or older children who come to faith, who have not previously been baptised, are required to demonstrate and profess a genuine personal faith prior to their baptism.

All people are welcome to freely worship with us and participate in our ministries. Becoming a member of our congregation grants full participation in the life of the congregation and provides further opportunities to serve in the church. Membership is about committing yourself to the local church and placing yourself under its teaching and oversight. People who would like to become members, from outside the RCNZ, are invited to attend the New Members' class.

If you would like to become a member of our congregation, please speak to one of the elders.
